What Can I Do About Vaginal Looseness?
Vaginal looseness (or vaginal laxity) is a condition that can create a lot of stress in women’s lives. Women who are sexually active and experiencing vaginal looseness may feel self-conscious during sex, which can lead to performance anxiety and seriously affect their confidence.
Vaginal looseness is usually a result of natural causes, like vaginal birth and aging. If you find that vaginal looseness is starting to have a negative impact on your quality of life, and especially if you are experiencing additional symptoms related to other pelvic floor conditions, we would strongly advise you to schedule a consultation with a trusted urogynecologist such as Dr. Shashoua here at Austin Urogynecology.
Vaginal looseness can often coincide with a range of other issues, such as pelvic organ prolapse and urinary incontinence, and the specifics of your individual condition will determine which treatment options will be the most effective. Dr. Shashoua is board certified in pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery and is one of the highest rated urogynecologists on RealSelf. As an expert in his field, he takes extra care to address each patient’s individual goals and concerns when making treatment recommendations.
What treatment options are available?
In addition to the procedures offered here at Austin Urogynecology, Dr. Shashoua offers both surgical and non-surgical options for addressing vaginal looseness and sexual dysfunction at his sister practice Austin Labiaplasty and Vaginal Rejuvenation. Note that while some patients may notice improvement with non-surgical options, individual results may vary greatly depending on the severity of the condition.
- Vaginal rejuvenation, also known as feminine rejuvenation, is a very popular surgical option for restoring the anatomy of the vagina and involves tightening the structural layers of the vagina and perrineum so that sensation during sex is improved.
- ThermiVa vaginal rejuvenation is a non-surgical procedure that utilizes radio frequency to deliver thermal energy to the walls of the vagina and surrounding tissue. This stimulates collagen and elastin production and increases blood flow to the area, helping to restore the vaginal canal and resulting in improved sexual function. Patients generally experience the benefits of ThermiVa for up to one year after receiving a full treatment.
- The O-Shot is a non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation treatment that uses plasma specially filtered from a patient’s blood. The plasma is referred to as “platelet-rich plasma”, or PRP, and contains growth factors that help to stimulate collagen production and blood flow to the clitoral tissue where it’s inject. While this can improve sensitivity and sexual pleasure, we would hesitate to call it a tightening procedure – some providers inject PRP into the walls of the vaginal canal and claim that this has a tightening effect, but if our patients are struggling with vaginal laxity we find that they have better results with procedures like vaginal rejuvenation or ThermiVa.
