The Office Labiaplasty

There are several factors to consider when performing an office Labiaplasty:

  • The most important part of the process is communication between the patient and Dr. Shashoua. Each patient has her own idea of the ideal labial skin appearance. In order for the procedure to be a success, the amount of skin removed has to match the individual patient’s vision and body.
  • Consideration is also given to removing excess clitoral skin so that the labia minora appear in proportion to the clitoral skin.
  • We perform labiaplasty safely and successfully in the office.

Consultation

Dr. Shashoua meets with the patient first for consultation and examination. A photograph is taken of the labia for the purposes of the exam. The patient can show Dr. Shashoua what she wants on the photo, and Dr. Shashoua can also make recommendations. The goal is to create a plan for the labiaplasty that incorporates the patient’s desires in a realistic and naturally appearing way.

Pre-procedure

All pre-procedure instructions will be thoroughly discussed prior to the labiaplasty. Preparation for the procedure involves shaving the external genitalia and cleansing with a special soap. Antibiotics are begun the day of the labiaplasty. Several hours before the procedure, the patient also takes oral pain medications and a sedative. Additionally, a topical anesthetic is applied to aid with numbing.

Labiaplasty
Labiaplasty takes one to two hours. Injection of local anesthesia with subsequent removal of the skin takes about 30 minutes and the rest of the time involves suturing. Our goal is to make you as comfortable as possible. Our patients tend to sleep lightly through the procedure.

Post-procedure

We recommend taking 2-3 days off following the procedure. Oral pain medication is utilized after labiaplasty for several days as well. The labia should be kept clean with water and special soap for one week after the procedure. Additionally, the patient will continue with oral antibiotics for a total of five days. Intercourse is generally avoided for 6 weeks post-procedure while the labia are healing. Two weeks after the procedure, we will remove non-dissolvable sutures. The topical numbing cream is again applied prior to the suture removal.

Satisfaction

Your satisfaction and safety is our priority. Our goal is to deliver a labiaplasty suited to both your desires and your body. After swelling goes down post-procedure, a patient may identify areas that she would like further reduced. If this is the case, we will work with you to continue revising the labia to the desired effect.
