Sexual Dysfunction in Women

Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder (HSDD) is little to no desire for sex. A 2008 survey of 30,000 American women found one in 10 women are affected by HSDD. Women with low sexual desire were found to consequently experience considerable distress or interpersonal difficulties. Various treatment approaches have been utilized including sex therapy, psychotherapy, hormone therapy and sexual dysfunction medications. Further research is needed for optimal treatment and multimodal approaches are likely the best current approach.

Austin Urogynecology continues to work with women regarding low libido, sexual arousal, dyspareunia and treatment options.
